Camelback Mountain is Calling

Agave Village is located about 12 miles from Scottsdale and fabulous Camelback Mountain. Camelback is the highest peak in Phoenix and offers many options for popular outdoor activities and sightseeing. Camelback is home to the famous “Praying Monk”, a beautiful red, sandstone rock formation resembling a man kneeling in prayer. The soft granite, sedimentary sandstone and conglomerate rock of Camelback provide the breathtaking reds, oranges, and pink you will be surrounded with. Get in early, or stay late so you don’t miss the brilliant sunsets!

Camelback Mountain

Nature took tens of millions of years to form this colossal symbol of a resting camel peacefully gazing over Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Paradise Valley and their four million inhabitants. The summit is 2,700 feet up and when you hike to it, you will be one of 300,000 yearly recreational hikers to experience the tranquil bliss of looking over the amazing cityscape.

There are four trails for the occasional hiker to choose from:

  1. Bobby’s Rock Trail: You will spend less than an hour on this 0.25-mile trail with an elevation lift of 200 feet. A post directs you to the trail after following the Echo Canyon Summit Trail out of the parking lot and hanging a right at the bottom of the first set of steps.
  2. Ramada Loop Trail: This is another easy trail with a length of 0.125 miles and an elevation of 100 feet.
  3. Summit Trail: The Summit goes up through the sandstone rock formations leading to fabulous views from the summit into greater Phoenix. It is 1.2 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,264 feet.
  4. Cholla Trail: The 1.5 mile Cholla Trail is recommended for experienced hikers only. It has steep, rocky sections with drop-offs on both sides of the trail and an elevation gain of 1,200 feet. The Cholla and Summit trails are classified as strenuous.
